Emily's Bio
The same boiling water that hardens the egg softens the potato,” has driven my curiosity to understand how human’s physical makeup and environment interact to determine health. I am passionate about the 10KFS because understanding these interactions could help future generations tailor these factors to achieve optimal health outcomes.
I was born and raised in Central MN in a rural, agriculturally-centered community. I received a Bachelor of Science in Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development with a minor in Public Health here at the U of M. My background has provided me an understanding of the importance of meticulous data collection and an overall appreciation of the scientific method. Our study collects a majority of our data from study participants through Health Visits.
My role is to coordinate and manage these health visits, so I train our Health Visit staff and prepare all the materials necessary for each visit. At the Health Visit itself, I make sure we collect the information we need from participants as efficiently and comfortably as possible.
One fun fact about me is that I am the youngest of six children, and the age gap between my oldest sibling and me is 27 years! I have 8 nieces and nephews; my oldest niece is pictured with me on the right. Learning how to keep future generations of my big family healthy is important to me!
